In its simplest terms, sustainability can be defined as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the needs of future generations. It is an “umbrella” term that encompasses the interactions and interrelationships between the economy, society, and environment. Supplemental to those interactions and interrelationships is the concept of nestedness. The economy is nested within (in other words, a subset of) society, which is nested within the environment. The “borders” between them are diffuse. To progress towards a sustainable future in all its forms, dialogue is a useful tactic to facilitate sustainability awareness and education. The purpose of this blog is to foster conversation and discussion about sustainability topics, issues, concepts, ideas, experiences, practices, and sustainability-focused laws, regulations, and public policies among UNCG students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors.sust-venn-diagram
